The History and Experience of Steve Small:
Growing up in a small town
in Central Texas during the sixties, Steve developed a fascination with cars early on. His junior high and high
school years were spent working on muscle cars with friends, all while gaining experience in mechanical and restoration
techniques.
In 1975, his career in the
automotive industry began in a machine-shop garage. This same year he did an engine swap, swapping a 327 ci Chevy
and a turbo 400 Transmission into a '49 Ford F-1. It was his first encounter with polishing, including polishing
the hood side moldings.
In 1980, he and a friend, Bob
Brock of Bob's Customs in Cameron Texas, did a full restoration of a '67 Chevy II SS. In 1983, Steve and a business
partner, Jerry Mayer, opened up Cameron Auto Clinic in Cameron as a full service garage.
Steve's interest in muscle
cars and restorations surfaced again when a friend invited him to the Pate Swap Meet in Forth Worth, Texas in 1984.
This was when swap meets were in their prime and people were restoring cars everywhere. Later that year, he bought
a '66 Chevy II SS and began collecting NOS parts. In 1988, when he and Bob Brock started restoration on the '66
he realized his distinct interest in trim restoration. On this car he polished all the stainless and aluminum trim.
Since completing that restoration
in 1989, he has been polishing trim for individuals, mainly through customer referrals, restoring their own vehicles
throughout Texas, as well as for Bob's Customs, a hot rod and restoration shop in Cameron.
In 2006, after doing trim restoration
on the side for 17 years, the opportunity presented itself to pursue the dream full time. Steve started Trim Polish,
and he looks forward to the many projects that will come his way through this new business pursuit.
